University Of Lagos (UNILAG) Ranks 1st In Nigeria, 401-500 Globally In The 2023 Times Higher Education World University Rankings

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) ranked 1st in Nigeria, while the University of Ibadan and Covenant University comes next. Ranking Done by THE (Times Higher Education). he University of Lagos, Nigeria (UNILAG) is ranked first in Nigeria and inside the top 401–500 universities in the world out of a total of 1,799 universities. The 2023 Times Higher Education World University Rankings were published on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, and this information is based on those rankings.

The rankings were methodically calculated based on thirteen (13) highly calibrated performance factors that reflect an institution’s success across four (4) different categories: teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and international view.

The University of Lagos has certainly improved significantly from prior years’ rankings, progressively improving from 2020 to the present. UNILAG moved from a range of 801-1000 in 2020 to a higher range of 601-800 in 2021, 501-600 in 2022, and now 401-500 in 2023. The University, on the other hand, is not relenting in its efforts to be recognised among the top ten universities in the world.

This year, the University is tied for first place in Nigeria with the University of Ibadan, followed by Covenant University in the range of 601 – 800. Outside of Nigeria, UNILAG shares the 401–500 range with the University of Alaska, Fairbanks, US; Aston University, UK; University of Bayreuth, Germany; Brunel University, London, UK; Colorado State University, Fort Collins, US, among others.
