Courses are offered in eight-week sessions, and the program recommends that students take two to three classes per term. Online students should anticipate spending between five and 18 hours per week on their studies. Course involvement is crucial to students’ success, as is participation in online group forums. Courses in the program will cover not only foundational concepts in psychology but also topics in evolutionary psychology and positive psychology. The BAP’s curriculum is in line with the American Psychological Association Guidelines for the Undergraduate Psychology Major. The College of Business and Social Sciences at ULM is also home to the peer-reviewed journal Contemporary Southern Psychology

ULM accepts transfer credits, and transfer students must have fulfilled both a college-level math course and an English course with a grade of C or better. It may be possible for certain general-education-required classes to be waived as well through a CLEP or DSST exam. ULM’s Scholarship office has an extensive database of scholarships for undergrads, transfer students, and veterans.

Northwestern State University’s Bachelor of Science in Psychology program is a 120-credit-hour program. Students will take 48 credits in psychology for the core coursework. These foundational courses give students an overview of psychology as a profession, experimental methods in psychology, theories of personality, and ethics in psychology. Students may then take 30 credits of elective coursework. The degree offers undergraduates the opportunity to concentrate on topics like substance abuse and prevention. These concentrations prepare graduates to apply for a Counselor in Training certification or licensure as an addiction professional. 

NSU requires ACT or SAT scores upon applying. For students transferring from another institution, transcripts will be evaluated to determine which courses can be used toward the BA in Psychology at NSU. NSU is recognized as a military-friendly school by the GI Jobs magazine. There are multiple opportunities to receive grants and scholarships, from the tuition hardship waiver to Louisiana’s Taylor Opportunity Program. For students taking all of their coursework online, there are no out-of-state fees, and after the student has earned 12 credit hours, tuition is $100 per credit.

The Bachelor of Arts in Psychology program at the University of Alaska Fairbanks is a 120-credit hour, four-year program. The major requires that students take foundational classes such as Psychology and Culture, Introductory Statistics, Elementary Probability and Statistics, and Research Design. Students then take courses in theoretical concepts and application of those theories. Among these classes are topics on the history and systems of psychology, brain and behavior, learning and cognition, and clinical psychology. UAF’s eCampus utilizes Blackboard as the online learning platform. All online students have the opportunity to take an orientation for online coursework. 

UAF’s eCampus caters to students who have nearly completed all of their undergraduate coursework, traditional students, and high school students getting a leg-up on college coursework. In 2019 and 2020, active members of the military deployed out of Ft. Wainwright, as well as Alaska National Guard service members can attend tuition-free. All online students are eligible for UAF’s resident tuition rate. The University of Alaska offers multiple scholarships with an annual application deadline of February 15 for the following school year.
