What to Know About Singapore
Contents
First, Sir Stamford Raffles found modern Singapore in 1819 as a trading post of the British Empire
However, in 1867, they reorganised the colonies in Southeast Asia. While Singapore came under the direct control of Britain as part of the Straits Settlements.
Furthermore, during the Second World War, Japan migrated to Singapore in 1942. But returned to British control as a separate crown colony following Japan’s surrender in 1945.
Again, Singapore gained self-governance in 1959. And in 1963, they became part of the new federation of Malaysia. Alongside Malaya, North Borneo, and Sarawak.
Ideological differences further led to Singapore being expelled from the federation. However, this expulsion happened two years later, after becoming an independent country.
Notably, when visiting Singapore, its multi-culturalism is outstanding. More so, the mix of expats and locals creates such a vibrant fusion of different cultures, food and experiences to be had in the city.
However, accommodation can be expensive when visiting Singapore, but taxies are pretty cheap. Besides, sometimes, extra surcharges get charged during peak hours.
Of course, the weather in Singapore is pretty much consistently warm all year round. Surely, you can visit any time within the year.
