National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) have suspended all news blogs and websites bearing “jamb” as domain name suspected of defrauding Nigerians.
The suspension came as a result of complaints filed by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to NITDA requesting for a shutdown of all such websites in Nigeria.
A source who operates such site and does not which to be mentioned confided on FINANCIAL WATCH on the shutdown of their website after receiving a mail from their web host intimating them of the complaint.
The source further said, according to the mail that the “We got a complaint from JAMB through National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) on a number of domain names that are defrauding Nigerians using different variant of their name (JAMB), your website was listed among them, and we were instructed to investigate and suspend all the domain names involved”.
“We communicated the information to the Registrars of the domain names in question and requested them to kindly also investigate and take the appropriate action”.
The warning mail further stated: “We understand that this domain names may not indulge in any fraudulent activity. However, we advice that you take down the contents of this site as requested by Nira to avoid immediate suspension of the domain name”.
“Please note that if this is not done within 12 hours of this report, we will be forced to suspend the domain”.
Further investigation by our reporter shows that all websites having “jamb” in their domain name has been shutdown as at the time of filling this report.
It has been observed by JAMB and also our investigative team that such websites are prone to spreading false news about the activities of JAMB and may also be involved in fraudulent activities and sales of fake JAMB forms.
