The Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) is a private, independent research university located in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan. Founded in 1984, LUMS is ranked as the top varsity in Pakistan in the QS University Rankings, and is also ranked by QS as among the top 300 universities globally for business and among the top 400 universities globally in mathematics. Following a liberal arts curriculum, LUMS is one of Pakistan’s most expensive, selective and progressive universities.
Despite the LUMS’ high demand on tuition fees, outstanding students can still study at LUMS with minimum expense. The Lahore University of Management Sciences in Pakistan offers a wide range of various funding opportunities for its deserving students to study or continue studies at the University.
LUMS scholarships vary for each level of study. Each year, LUMS offers undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate scholarships. See below for each of the scholarships’ details.

Financial Support for Pakistani Students
- Need-based Tuition Fee Waivers and Loans
Within its limited resources, LUMS provides financial assistance to students with demonstrated need. These awards at the undergraduate level are available in the form of tuition fee waiver and LUMS Interest Free Loan.
Undergraduate need-based financial assistance covers atrial to full tuition fee expenses of the program. Over the last year, the amount of financial assistance ranges between 20% and 100%. These awards are reassessed in each academic year based on the student’s performance and demonstrated financial need.
Financial Aid fee waiver is not required to be repaid, whilst LUMS Interest Free Loan will need to be paid back after 6 months of graduation within a maximum period of 5 years.
- National Outreach Program
LUMS launched its National Outreach Program (NOP) in 2001 to extend the benefits of world-class education to talented students all over Pakistan and thereby become a truly national university. This prestigious scholarship program focuses on identifying bright students with exceptional Matriculation and FA/FSc results and inducting them into the LUMS Undergraduate Programs. Scholars who qualify for the NOP are given full financial assistance.
Eligible students are those who holds at least 80% marks in Matric or equivalent in 0 levels and are in need of financial assistance.
- Undergraduate Merit Scholarships
LUMS provides its students generous merit scholarships to recognize their good academic performance and to distinguish high achievers. LUMS Merit Scholarships are awarded based on the students’ outstanding academic performance.
The merit scholarships are offered in two types: first year merit scholarships and subsequent years merit scholarships.

- First Year: A total of 100 scholarships are offered each year to prospective top ranked undergraduate students at LUMS. First year merit scholarship awards cover full and partial tuition fee for one year and are awarded to the top students of admitted batch in each school at LUMS.
No separate application is required for this scholarship. Students will be automatically considered for the award when they apply for admission to LUMS.

- Subsequent Years: These merit scholarships cover partial to full tuition fee for one year only, and are awarded to the returning batches who make it on the Dean’s Honor List based on their academic performance.
LUMS Merit Scholarships are offered only to students of the following schools at LUMS:

Top three students of each batch in each school will be awarded merit scholarships as follows:

- 1st Position: 100% tuition fee waiver
- 2nd Position: 60% tuition fee waiver
- 3rd Position: 30% tuition fee waiver
Financial Support for International Students
LUMS offers the Shahid Hussain Foundation Scholarship for its international students. The scholarship is made available to meritorious undergraduate students. The scholarships include need-based tuition fee waivers, LUMS interest free loans, National Outreach Program scholarships, merit scholarships and external scholarships.
In order to be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Meet the minimum academic criteria for admission
- Be a citizen of SAARC member countries (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Sri Lanka, India)
- Not be a Pakistani origin and should not have a Pakistani passport / NICOP / CNIC. Applicants holding dual nationality out of which one is Pakistani are not eligible to apply through the LUMS International Student Program.
Graduate Programs
MS Program
- MS Loan Options
LUMS Interest-Free Loan covers partial to full tuition fee expense and are interest-free. These awards are reassessed in each academic year based on the recipient’s performance and demonstrated financial need. The repayment of these interest-free loans starts 6 months after graduation with time period of 3 to 5 years.
- MS Merit Scholarships
LUMS provide merit scholarships to students who have proven their ability to succeed academically. There is no separate application needed for this scholarship. Students will be automatically considered for the scholarship when they apply for admission to LUMS.
LUMS MS Merit Scholarships are divided into two categories:

- Scholarship for First Year: These scholarships cover partial to full tuition fee for one year only, and are awarded to the admitted batch based on LUMS admission evaluation ranking for the first year.
- Scholarship for Subsequent Years: These scholarships cover partial to full tuition fee for one year only and are awarded to the returning batches who are placed on the Dean’s Honor List based on their academic performance.
The scholarships are offered only for studies in the following schools at LUMS:

- FBS Award
The Four Basic Sciences (FBS) Award is a flat subsidy of 35% offered by LUMS to all MS students enrolled in Four Basic Sciences programs (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics). This award is given in the form of waiver and do not need to be repaid.
No separate application is required for this award. Students are automatically considered for this award when they receive admission to a MS Four Basic Sciences program at LUMS.
MBA / EMBA Program
- International Scholarships
LUMS offers the Asian Development Bank – Japan Scholarship Program (ADB-JSP) for MBA programs at the Suleman Dawood School of Business. Around 150 scholarships are offered through the ADB-JSP each year. These scholarships are available for studies in economics, management, science and technology, and other development-related fields.
The scholarship provides full tuition fees, a monthly allowance for expenses, housing, books and instructional materials, medical insurance and travel. For scholars engaged in research, a special grant may be available for thesis preparation. In special circumstances, computer literacy, preparatory language and other similar courses may be covered under the scholarship.
- Merit Scholarships
MBA Merit Scholarships at LUMS are offered to academically outstanding students as the following forms of gift aid:

- First Year
- GMAT / GRE Reimbursement: 100% refund of GRE / GMAT fee to all admitted applicants.
- Tuition Fee Waivers:
- 50% tuition waiver for admitted students with a GMAT score of 700 and above (or GRE equivalent)
- 50% tuition wavier for admitted top talented students based on University merit evaluation.
- Second Year: These scholarships cover partial tuition fee for one year only and are awarded to the top 3 students from returning batch whose names are in the Dean’s Honor List based on their academic performance.
- Loan Options

- MCB Student Personal Loan: Loans sponsored by the MCB Bank for Pakistani students only, with a maximum of PKR 1 million and should be repaid in a maximum of 5 years starting from 6 months after the student graduates.
- LUMS Interest-Free Loan: Loans free of interest to cover partial and full tuition fee expense. This loan should be repaid after 6 months of graduation for a maximum period of 3 to 5 years.
This scholarship is aimed to foster, celebrate and advance women’s leadership in business. This scholarship will support female students to pursue higher education on merit and will increase the number of women joining the MBA / EMBA programs of the Business School. All female applicants admitted to a MBA / EMBA program at LUMS will be eligible for a 50% tuition fee waiver.
MPhil Program
- Merit Scholarships
Merit Scholarships for MPhil programs are awarded for the first year and the subsequent year of study. For the first year, the scholarship covers full and partial tuition fee for one year ,and are awarded to the top students of admitted batch in school, based on LUMS admission evaluation ranking.
For the subsequent year, the scholarship covers partial and full tuition fee for the returning batch based on their academic performance.
- Need-based Tuition Fee Waivers
Tuition fee waivers are offered for needy and deserving students who are studying in a MPhil program at LUMS. Unlike loans, tuition waivers are not required to be repaid.
- GMAT / GRE Registration Fee Refund
Applicants who are admitted to, and join, the MPhil Education Leadership and Management Program will receive a refund of one GRE / GMAT registration fee.
Doctoral Programs
LUMS provides funding for PhD students in terms of scholarship and research assistantship. The PhD programs at LUMS offer a full tuition fee waiver to all students on merit for 4 years. Other types of financial assistance include a monthly assistance package.
Teaching assistantships and stipends to support faculty in research projects are some of the other opportunities that may be available to doctoral students for additional financial assistance. These are subject to faculty approval.
External Scholarships
There are a number of prestigious scholarships for undergraduate students. LUMS supporters include individuals and organizations from all over the world. These scholarships can help students cover the costs of education and related expenses (i.e. books, accommodation and living).
The Punjab Educational Endowment Fund (PEEF), an initiative of the government of the Punjab, offers LUMS students the opportunity to benefit from financial aid. PEEF provides scholarships / monetary assistance to talented and needy students.
