The Significance of Pre-Degree Studies (PDS)

Contents

Candidates who choose to participate in the PDS rather than simply sitting for the JAMB examination at home enjoy the added advantage of a reserved quota provided by LASU, increasing their chances of securing admission. This is, of course, contingent on them passing the JAMB exam.

Eligibility and Admission Requirements

To qualify for the programme, candidates must have credits in at least three subjects, including Mathematics, English Language, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Government, Economics, Literature in English, Christian Religious Studies (CRS), Islamic Religious Studies (IRS), and Accounting. These credits must be obtained from the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination, GCE or NECO at not more than two sittings.

Candidates meeting these requirements will then be invited for a written qualifying examination.

The subjects offered in the PDS include:

  1. Mathematics
  2. English Language
  3. Physics
  4. Chemistry
  5. Biology
  6. Government
  7. Economics
  8. Literature in English
  9. Christian Religious Studies (CRS)
  10. Islamic Religious Studies (IRS)
  11. Accounting

The Transition to 100 Level

For a smooth transition to 100 Level, candidates are required to sit for the UTME and achieve the minimum JAMB Cut Off Mark for the University Admission. They must also comply with the University Screening Test as prescribed.

All candidates with deficiencies in their O’Level results must register for WAEC and/or NECO, and pass all the relevant deficient subjects. Successful candidates will then be eligible to transition into the 100 Level courses of related Faculties/Schools/College, including Engineering, Science, Management Sciences, Education, Social Sciences, Law, Agriculture, Transport & Logistics, Mass Communication, Nursing, Dentistry, and the College of Medicine.

The Track Record of LASU PDS

The performance of the 2022 PDS candidates speaks volumes about the efficacy of the programme. An impressive 85% of these candidates scored 200 and above in the UTME, with two candidates achieving scores well above 300. This success can be attributed to the rigorous teaching methods and practice tests provided during the programme.
