Clarendon Fund Scholarships Selection Criteria

Selection criteria vary slightly depending on the subject area and whether applicants apply for a taught or research degree, but include:
1. A strong academic record is required: A high first-class honours degree or its equivalent (a GPA of at least 3.7 if the grade is out of 4, noting that most successful candidates achieve a score higher than 3.7) or an outstanding academic record at the Master’s level (noting that an outstanding Master’s degree can compensate for a moderate first-degree performance).
2. Individual grades on student transcripts, evidence of previous university accolades or awards, information on your overall standing within your cohort, and publications are all markers of strong academic achievement (if applicable).
3. Academic references, the research plan, demonstrated evidence of a research aptitude, and the possibility that the scholar would contribute significantly to their field of study can all be used to assess aptitude for the proposed course of study. They analyze student motivation by looking for evidence of the applicant’s dedication to the proposed course in the personal statement and referee reviews.
