Apply for the Government of Canada Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships Program. The Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships program provides funding to the very best postdoctoral applicants, both nationally and internationally, who will positively contribute to the country’s economic, social, and research-based growth. The objective of the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships program is to:

  1. Attract and retain top-tier postdoctoral talent, both nationally and internationally.
  2. Develop their leadershippotential.
  3. Position them for success as research leaders of tomorrow.

Features

The Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships program is unique in its emphasis on the synergy between:

  1. The applicant: their individual merit and potential to launch a successful research-intensive career.
  2. The host institution: their commitment to the research program and alignment with the institution’s strategic priorities
  3. Furthermore, an applicant to the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships program must complete their application in full collaboration with the proposed host institution.

Benefits

Canadian and international candidates are eligible to apply for a Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship. Each Government of Canada Fellowships Program is valued at $70,000 (taxable) per annum for two years.

Eligibility

This program is open to Canadian citizens, permanent residents of Canada, and foreign citizens.

Also, applicants for this program must fulfil all degree requirements for a PhD, PhD-equivalent, or health professional degree. Applicants who have not fulfilled all requirements for their degree at the time of application must submit proof no later than October 15, 2022.

Selection Criteria for Banting Program

Applicant’s research excellence and leadership in the research domain:

  • Showed the capacity for research excellence based on track record as defined by the quality of the applicant’s research contribution; and
  • showed the capacity for leadership in the research domain as defined by the sphere of influence achieved to date by the applicant.

Quality of applicant’s proposed research program:

  • the potential of the proposed researchprogram, executed in the proposed institutional environment, to position the applicant to have a significant impact through a research-intensive career.
  • Institutional commitment and showed synergy between the applicant and institutional strategic priorities:
  • Showed commitment of the institution to champion the development of the applicant’s research and leadership capacity through support (funding, facilities, equipment, etc.) And professional development;
  • Institution’s research capacity (demonstrated or potential) in the research area of the applicant’s proposed research program, which will enable the institution to provide an intellectually stimulating environment to position the applicant as a research leader; and
  • showed alignment and synergy between the applicant’s research ambitions and the institution’s potential to benefit strategically from engaging with the applicant.
