Apply for Let’s Talk Campaign – Early and Unintended Pregnancies Dissemination Activity 2019 (receive $500 & join a regional movement)

Deadline: September 20, 2019

Applications are open for the Family Planning 2020 Let’s Talk Campaign – Early and Unintended Pregnancies Dissemination Activity. Calling youth from Eastern and Southern Africa are invited to apply for the opportunity to receive $500 and join a regional movement working towards ending early and unintended pregnancy.

The Eastern and Southern African (ESA) region has one of the highest adolescent fertility rates in the world, at 102 per 1,000 live births. Many of these early pregnancies are not planned, as evidenced by the high rate of unintended pregnancy in Africa at 89 per 1,000 overall and 112 per 1,000 in Eastern Africa, resulting in an estimated 21.6 million unintended pregnancies per year.

The “Let’s Talk!” campaign is a multinational response to the crisis of early and unintended pregnancy (EUP) across 21 countries in the Eastern and Southern Africa (ESA) region that was recently launched on the 31st of July in Johannesburg, South Africa. The Campaign was commissioned by the Technical Coordinating Group of the ESA Ministerial Commitment 1 through the core partner organisations of UNESCO, UNFPA, SCS and SAfAIDS. The joint effort recognized the damage EUP brings to adolescents, their families and communities throughout the ESA region, and to the economic and social development of their nations.
