16 year-old girl bags 8 distinctions in WASSCE, IGCSE exams

Sixteen-year-old Serena Ogie Omo-Lamai, former student of Dowen College, Lekki, Lagos, obtained eight distinctions in the May/June 2015 West African Senior Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and another in the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE).
In the May/June 2015 WASSCE and IGCSE for the Cambridge International Examinations, Serena made her college proud with eight distinctions and she is currently undergoing a one year foundation programme preparatory for her university education in either United Kingdom or United States.

Serena with WAEC exam no 4250822038 obtained eight A1s in Geography, Civic Education, English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Food Nutrition while Dying & Bleaching is outstanding.
In the June 2015 IGCSE, she recorded eight A1 in Biology, Chemistry, First Language English, Food & Nutrition, Geography, Mathematics, Physics and French.
Based on her academic feat, Serena was celebrated at the college graduation ceremony and the proprietor of Dowen College, Dr. Philips Olumide showered encomium. She and others who did well in the two exams were honoured with two big banners with their photograph display in the college.
Serena, who wants to study Biomedical Engineering, said her teachers, classmates, private tutor and her parents played major role in her academic success in WAEC and IGCSE.
The former pupil of Bambi Nursery and Primary School, Ikeja, revealed that she was expecting to do well in both exams but not as the overall best adding ‘’I read every topic, went through past questions and sacrificed my social life’’.
Said she: ‘’I knew I was going to do well but not as the best. I feared a particularly girl in the commercial class and thought others will do will do better than I in the exams. Everybody prepared well and at the end I gave my best.
‘’It was my day who broke the news while we were holidaying abroad. I thought he was joking when he broke the news. I felt happy that my hard work has produced good results’’.
