In addition to the general orientation for all new LASU students, there is a separate orientation for those in the Full-Time Degree with Entrepreneurship programme.
This guide covers what the Directorate of Skills Development and Entrepreneurship (DSDE) does, how its orientation has worked in the past, the related courses, and what new students can expect.

What the Directorate of Skills Development and Entrepreneurship Actually Is
LASU’s Directorate of Skills Development and Entrepreneurship (DSDE) was set up by the University Senate on 26th May 2011.
It was first known as the Centre for Entrepreneurial Studies.
The Directorate aims to be a model for other Nigerian universities by building a strong research centre for Entrepreneurship and Leadership Studies and by retraining people with vocational experience using a ‘train the trainers’ method.
A Management Board, Academic Board members, an Advisory Board, resource persons, and staff from the bursary and registry run the Directorate.
It is based in the Entrepreneurship Building next to the School of Transport Building on LASU’s main campus in Ojo, Lagos.
Who this Orientation Is For
This orientation is for new students in the Full-Time Degree with Entrepreneurship programme.
It is different from the general orientation for all undergraduates, so not every new student attends it.
If you are not sure if your admission includes this orientation, ask your faculty or the DSDE office.
How the Orientation Programme Has Worked in Practice
A good example of this orientation was held on Tuesday, 30th April 2024, at the Buba Marwa Auditorium on the main campus in Ojo, Lagos.
This session shows what the event is usually like:
- Purpose: To familiarise newly admitted full-time students with the entrepreneurship options on offer at the university.
- Leadership addresses: Senior staff from the Directorate spoke to students, encouraging them to be open-minded, develop their entrepreneurial skills, and focus on practical skills they can use in their environment.
- Context for the programme’s importance: Speakers explained that the Directorate helps students face economic challenges in Nigeria and beyond. They see entrepreneurship training as a practical way to deal with a tough job market.
- Specific skills introduced: Students learned about different entrepreneurship skills they could choose, such as Event Planning, Bag Making, Makeup and Cosmetics, and more.
- The Directorate’s stated goal: To help students become employers instead of job seekers, with support from its facilitators.
Although the exact date for the 2026/2027 orientation was not available at the time of writing, this earlier session gives a good idea of what to expect in terms of format, tone, and purpose once the date is announced.
The Courses Tied to This Programme
After orientation, Full-Time Degree with Entrepreneurship students follow a set academic and vocational path:
Academic Entrepreneurship Courses:
- ENT 202 (Basic Principles of Entrepreneurship) is for 200 Level students. It covers what entrepreneurship is, how to turn knowledge into profit, its role in personal and national growth, key entrepreneurial skills, and the basics of running a business, including business types, staffing, marketing, and finding new opportunities.
- ENT 302 (Practical Entrepreneurship) is for 300 Level students and builds on what was learned in ENT 202.
Important prerequisite rule: You must pass ENT 202 before you can take ENT 302.
If you do not pass ENT 202, you cannot register for the ENT 302 exam the next year.
Doing well in your first entrepreneurship course is important to stay on track.
Certificate (Vocational) Courses: In addition to academic courses, the Directorate offers many hands-on certificate courses.
There have been about 32 different options, such as Door Access Control Installation and Management, Animal Husbandry (like snail and grass cutter breeding), Awards, Packaging and Screen Printing, and Bead Making.
How Vocation Registration Has Worked
After orientation, students sign up for their chosen vocation.
In a previous cycle, the process worked like this:
- The registration window is announced and usually lasts about two weeks. For example, in a past cycle, it ran from 20th July to 3rd August.
- Students log in to the Directorate’s online portal at csc.lasu.edu.ng/dsde using their Matric Number, Surname, and Student Category.
- There are limited slots for each vocation. Popular options can fill up quickly, so register as soon as the window opens.
- If you need to change your chosen vocation, contact the Directorate by email (lasudsde@lasu.edu.ng) or reach out to your Faculty Coordinator.
- After registering, students collect their logbooks in person at the Directorate during office hours, which usually start around 10:00 a.m.

The University Senate established it on Thursday, 26th May 2011, originally as the Centre for Entrepreneurial Studies.
3. What courses do entrepreneurship students take?
ENT 202 (Basic Principles of Entrepreneurship) at 200 Level, and ENT 302 (Practical Entrepreneurship) at 300 Level, alongside a wide range of hands-on certificate/vocational courses.
4. What happens if I fail ENT 202?
You cannot register for the ENT 302 examination the following year, since ENT 202 is a prerequisite for ENT 302.

Final Thoughts
LASU’s Skills Development and Entrepreneurship Orientation gives Full-Time Degree with Entrepreneurship students a clear introduction to the academic and vocational path they will follow, including ENT 202 and ENT 302 courses and hands-on certificate courses in areas like event planning and animal husbandry.
Since the Directorate’s contact details and online registration portal are easy to access, new students should contact them directly to confirm the orientation date and registration window once the 2026/2027 resumption period begins.
